Having your fire hose reels serviced regularly ensures they in a condition fit for fighting a fire. It also identifies whether the fire hose reel has been tampered with or misused. It is the responsibility of the property owner to get the fire hose reels regularly serviced. Failure to maintain life safety equipment can result in criminal proceedings under The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 England and Wales or The Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006.
What is involved in servicing a fire hose reel
During the annual Fire Hose Reel test, we conduct a Flow and Pressure test. The results recorded on the service label attached to the reel. In addition, a visual inspection of the hose and all the fittings is undertaken.
Every 5 years, the hose is pressure tested to ensure the integrity of the unit should it be used in an emergency situation. We carry the required test equipment which allows us to pressurize each hose to its maximum working pressure (Maximum working pressure 12 bar, Test pressure 18 bar Typical).
If any failures are discovered, Hydrants Direct Service vehicles carry a good supply of spares from most manufacturers, so a speedy resolution is often found.
Hydrants Direct Ltd also provide certification per hose reel.
